Furniture — Desks

Solid wood desks,
made for the work you do.

A desk is the piece of furniture you touch most. We build them from solid hardwood — hard maple, walnut, or quarter-sawn white oak — sized to your room, your chair, and the way you actually work. Cords are managed out of sight. Drawers are dovetailed by hand. Current lead time is 12 to 16 weeks.

How a desk is built

(01 — 03)
01

Concealed cord management

A shallow channel is routed along the rear rail and capped with a removable hardwood cover, so power and data run from the wall to the desktop without a visible bundle. A single grommet — blackened steel or aged brass — is placed where you actually sit, not where a factory template says it should go.

02

Hand-cut dovetailed drawers

Drawer boxes are dovetailed by hand and run on wooden runners waxed to a whisper. No plastic slides to fail in ten years. Where a design calls for steel or brass hardware, it is specified deliberately and left visible as part of the piece.

03

A surface built to be worked on

Four coats of house-blended oil and wax, burnished between each. The finish sits in the wood rather than on it — so a scratch from a decade of writing can be rubbed back in an afternoon instead of being sent out for refinishing.

Three timbers for a workspace

(01 — 03)

A desk top takes more wear than any other surface in a house, so hardness matters as much as colour. If you are weighing species, read our guide to choosing hardwood.

01

Hard Maple

Sugar Maple / Natural Oil

The most durable surface we offer for daily desk work. Dense, closed grain that resists the dents and scuffs of laptops, keyboards, and chair arms — and it reflects light back into the room rather than absorbing it.

02

American Black Walnut

Solid heartwood / Oil Finish

The quiet, dark option for a study or a room with strong light. Deep chocolate that lightens toward honeyed brown over a decade, with the figure sharpening as it goes.

03

White Oak

Quarter-sawn / Fumed or Oil

Quarter-sawn for medullary fleck and seasonal stability — the safest choice for a wide, unsupported desk top that must stay dead flat through the year.

Hickory, cherry, ash, and select exotic hardwoods are available by request for one-off custom desks.

Commission

Commission a solid wood desk.

Tell us the room, the depth you have to work with, and what has to live on and under the desk — monitors, a laptop, paper, power. We will bring timber samples and a drawing. Current lead time is 12 to 16 weeks.
